I FINALLY WITNESSED A LUNAR ECLIPSE!!!

OMG OMG OMG

AHHH.

IT WAS SO FASCINATING I REGRET NOTHING.

I literally sat by the window for 2 hours watching the Moon disappear and reappear right before my eyes.

I took several pictures and videos documenting the process of the eclipse, but i'm really disappointed with my lousy camera, which so decidedly to stall.

If only I had my camera earlier in the night while I was outside, could have taken down the entire process of the eclipse.

What I have is the mid-first part and the second part of the ecliptic process. Which in simple english means, half of the disappearing act + the full reappearing act of the Moon.

What was even more fascinating apart from the Lunar Eclipse was the fact that the Orion constellation could be seem extremely clearly too!

You know, the constellation with three stars in line to each other, forming the Orion Belt? YAH! THAT ONE!

BAHAHAHAHAHAHA.

It has been raining massively in Singapore, hence stars have been almost non-visible to the naked eye in night skies for a long while already.

BUT, THEY WERE EXTREMELY CLEAR AND VISIBLE TONIGHT!!!

ZOMG. I FEEL SO FULFILLED ALREADY.

Taking Astronomy really made me appreciate the Lunar Eclipse even more than I believe I would. It was really eye-opening to see it with my own eyeballs.

So my Mum and I were like O.O

This stranger (most probably a local Hong Kong resident herself) came up to ask us directions but actually just wanted to tell us that we look alike?!?

Lift upgrading is a wonderful and splendid thing, especially so when you know you're gonna be a bigger sloth than ever cos' your lift will stop right outside your doorstep.

So, we have to put up with those drilling noises and dirt and dust and sand now for a lazier tomorrow! :D

BUT,

not everything's so wonderful and splendid when sucky things like this happens.

MAINTENANCE

WALAO. The only working lift is under maintenance and is not working.

Thanks ah, had to take the stairs. Defeating the purpose of a lift which stops right outside my doorstep.

This happened around two weeks ago, but still, hopefully such sucky things wouldn't happen anymore.

I haven't felt this excited for a long long time already. I'm still so high on adrenaline I don't even think I can fall asleep.

The cause of this impending insomnia - Hurts.

Hurts is a British synthpop duo which debuted in September 2010. Released their debut album 'Happiness' and killed me with their songs. The rest is yada yada cos' you don't care and I don't know either.

Ken and I went for Hurts' concert at the Esplanade just now, and really, it was simply fantastic.

It's like kinda retarded cos' there's only 2 pricing categories, $80 and $98.

Well, you don't need to be a math genius to know the deal right?

Of course the $98 and right in front right? hahaha.

Theo is just so awesome! His vocals are insane.

I don't even know how this kid here can sing better live than the studio record version.

Mesmerising.

This group is so sick, I was shrilling like a crazy fangirl at parts of the concert.

Theo and Adam's stage presences were awesomely awesome, they weren't just presenting music, but also a visual performance as well.

No dancing though, just some awkward hand gestures, swinging of the mic stand, strumming of the guitar, walking around, etc. But yeah, stage presence, checked.

Yeah. That's about all. I'm still high on adrenaline.

I'm so gonna dream of them and forget all about my exam in the morning to come. XD

but then again, no regrets!!!! :D

I watched Avril Lavigne's Black Star Tour concert the day before with Lizzie. It was good too! But I think I'm long over the age of punk rock. Surprisingly though is that Avril Lavigne hasn't aged a bit! She looks pretty much the same as when she came out with her 'Complicated' when I was in primary school. That's freaking 10 years ago and she still looks the same.

New Umbrella!

I know it's the exams periods, but I'm spending my days as though I'm the biggest sloth in the world. Oh my life is the biggest joke, ain't it？ Even <--- that question mark is a joke but I'm gonna leave it as it is since it's, I suppose, laugh-worthy.

Anyway, mum (or was it dad...) bought me a new umbrella today. It's really nice! Okay I know it's retarded to be showing off my umbrella on my blog, I wanted to blog about the General Elections but I'll probably drown in my own sweat and tears after typing out the post cos' there's just too much to say and I'm so very disappointed with the results. So, to bring move on in life albeit it being a joke, I'm gonna talk about my new umbrella instead :) I'm sure it's going to be very useful in times to come, I foresee more gloomy days and dark clouds to come, especially now that my area in under the opposition. ARGH.

Who's to Judge a Language?

About 2 weeks ago, my group mates and I were struggling with an assignment about annotating a corpus, and we had a presentation and blah blah blah. The main point I want to drive at is that, our professor came up to us and told us that we can gain extra credits if we can improve the flawed sentences on the corpus. Okay, so that was what I did, improving sentences on the corpus, and what I got back is a heap load of rubbish and a total ruination of my pride. I don't even think I know ENGLISH anymore.

So what happened was that we had to annotate and tag word senses in a corpus, any corpus. We chose T*****a corpus (I don't wanna get into trouble here) as it is a multilingual corpus and seem very interesting to us budding multilingual linguists. We, however, faced problems while annotating the sentences because some of the sentences seem erroneous and sadly to say, some are downright horrendous as they are direct translations. Our professor hence told us to correct whatever sentences which we felt are wrong to improve the corpus as a whole and yada yada.

And so I did.

I made a total of 78 contributions to the corpus, mostly are comments of which I think the sentences didn't sound right and needed to be changed. For sentences which are not owned by anyone, I could basically adopt it, make it mine and correct it. HALLELUJAH, that was when hell came.

After one night of editing certain sentences which I felt was wrong, I was greeted with 15 emails from ~~strangers~~ T*****a's war troops the next morning telling me how they don't feel a need to change their awkward-sounding sentences or that I must change my corrected sentences for the original ones are correct.

Here are just some print-screens of my mortifying experiences with the evils of this earth. Of course, to protect the privacy of my enemies-in-war, I've sprayed paint on their names (If only I could do the same to their faces).


'She died for a lack of air.' This sentence sounds weird, agree?

I commented on suggesting a change. but those ever-helpful front line troops replied after I commented on changing the sentence to a less awkward-sounding one.

Well, not only is he/she indirectly saying that I'm stupid for not knowing that the original sentence 'is fine', he/she is trying to tell me that my vocab sucks too for not knowing the word 'asphyxia'.

Next is a really weird sentence that I've never ever come across before in the twenty one years of my life.


Does that English sentence even makes sense to you? It seems so ungrammatical to me. The Chinese translation of it doesn't tally too.

So, the backside-itchy me went to change the sentence to "No sooner had I left it began to rain."

Then, I received an email notification telling me that someone commented on my sentence. The person not only commented once, but twice. Twice on how my English sucked and I should go right to hell for having such bad English.

As seen from above, I was trying to understand what is so 'right' about the original sentence, so I commented on whether the comparative 'than' should be the chronological 'then' instead.

BUT NO.

Someone smart came and rescued his fellow trooper by telling me straight in the face, 'No, it's "than"'.

OKAY POINT TAKEN.

What I didn't know was that people are really so free to stay on T*****a's website forever and go through all the comments/changes that others make. Yes, I received another comment on my change.

I hate my life.

Now, You must be wondering, so what's the original sentence?

Here you go. Don't be too shocked though, cos' I'm just a student and am unable to pay your medical bills if anything were to happen to you.

My work is to do redundant things and make myself a laughing stock.

Okay, I proposed 'My sister works as an English teacher', but that was mercilessly shot down by those ever-protective soldiers of T*****a.

WHAT A DUMB ASS I AM TO NOT KNOW THAT THE BEST TRANSLATION FOR ‘我姐姐是个英文老师’ is 'My sister's work is teaching English' (and we are from China).

Next one is an epic. It is such an epic that I now declare myself a failure in the English language.

Check out the sentence is:

Wah I swear when I first saw this sentence in T*****a, I was laughing so hard I couldn't feel my cheeks for the next five minutes.

But when replies and comments came in to my change of the sentence, I couldn't laugh anymore. I cried. I cried for the inabilities for being able to see the beauty of the English language. Here are the comments I received.

Woah woah woah. First, someone thinks the original sentence is correct (!!!) Next, someone else thinks that I'm so dumb I don't know how to find links on a web page.

I feel so dumb I was at a lost of words to fight. I succumbed to my dumbness and gave in to them, admitted defeat and swore in my heart never to go back to that war zone ever again.

There were more actually, but during my quest to print screen more wreckage from my defeated war grounds, the site crashed. Evidence as shown below.

ATs and ABNNs. So many of them in Singapore. So many that I don't have to explain what the acronyms mean.

Morning trips to school on the trains are never so comfortable anymore. Faces among us on streets do not look so familiar anymore. The once ubiquitious Singlish do not sound so common anymore. Char Kway Tiaos do not taste so local anymore.

Here's a big WELCOME to all our ALL-SO-FAVOURITE ATs and ABNNs!

I don't hate them, I'm just hating how things are becoming. I hate their guts for coming to my Sunny Island in search for a living. I hate my country's leadermen even more, I hate them for allowing these foreign 'talents' to take up land space and fight with us locals for oxygen.

Singapore IS a part of China, don't you all know? The amount of ATs there are here makes me feel like a minority in my own homeland. I feel as though I'm on an exchange in some University of Ah Tiong in Boon Lay.

Singapore could be a part of India too, don't you know? From Changi Airport to Expo, from Tanah Merah to Simei, from Bedok, Eunos, Paya Lebar and Aljunied, Bugis station and beyond even to Chinese Garden, our MRTs are all filled with them carrying their luggages and their entire clans and villages migrated directly from slumdog millionaires.

No, I'm not being racist here. I'm a freaking Asian and a freaking Chinese myself. I'm proud of my heritage, my roots and my nationality. My NATIONALITY.

But this influx of ATs and ABNNs is becoming absurd. Leadermen say we need them cos' no one wants to take up jobs like being construction workers, cleaners and low-paying jobs. YAH RIGHT! We have so many houses to build is it? At the end of the day we're just building more houses for foreigners we call EXPATS anyway. And cleaners are still old aunties and uncles who are equally annoyed by the extra piles of mess made these newcomers who aren't quite sure that Singapore isn't China or India where they have the ground for dustbins and spittoons.

Stop giving them scholarships already, your local kids are finding it harder and harder to get into local universities as competition is so high. I don't understand how they can even pass English proficiency tests when they can't even hold a proper face-to-face conversation with us locals. Electronic dictionaries are their gods, not you, MOE.

What advantages are they bringing in when all they do is jumping off buildings with their innocent children when they find it hard to adapt to this lifestyle in Singapore? If it is THIS stressful to live in Singapore, I would have jumped down from the Swissotel over and over already.

Eh seriously la my leadermen, GE is coming and you guys are coming up with all sorts of ways to get our votes. Let me give you a sure win idea k, give voting rights to ATs and ABNNS lah, you sure win hands down cos there're SO MANY of them. You don't need a tsunami to drown Singapore. One spit from each of them will drown the Merlion too.

Sometime somewhere I heard that companies managing construction workers can no longer provide them with transportation *gasp in horror*. Notice how those lorries filled with ABNNs are now no longer in sight on our roads? Wow, now the roads feel clean and safe. Sure, at the jeopardy of cleaniness and safety on the trains, of course. Cutting down of transportation cost ah? Why are the construction workers taking the trains now instead? Aren't they supposed to be ferried around on buses or lorries to construction sites?! I don't understand. Nothing was said or addressed about this. I feel like an idiot having to wake up 3 hours earlier to go to school just because trains are sardine-packed every morning and I have to beat the peak and peak-pre-peak hours.
'Too close for comfort' is an understatement. I often smell the hair of the guy standing in front of me while feeling the chills of somebody breathing down my neck from behind.
Is it so expensive for SMRT to just get another train to ferry people in the morning? Waiting time of 4 minutes in the morning is just too long and the human crowd germinates and grows within the first minute of wait.
This is a vicious cycle. Why not you smarty-pants leadermen ferry those poor construction workers who have to squeeze in the trains with snorbish Singaporeans like me in your own cars? You'll feel how it feels to be us, fellow countrymen whose only means of transportation is the MRT.

Again, I have no personal grudges with the ATs and ABNNs, I am good friends with some of them too. But when things get out of control, something has to be done. And I'm pretty sure that either you, our leadermen, are too busy with GE to look into this, or just fooling yourselves that our population of 5 million people is really the result of your baby bonus strategies.

I've been listening to a lot of songs recently. A LOT.
But nothing can be as addictive as this one here.
倪安东 (Anthony Neely), an American-Chinese mixed.
First showed the world his amazing singing talent (and cute looks) in singing competition, One Million Stars 〈超级星光大道〉. First person to score a whopping 33 points out of 25 in the singing competition, becoming an overnight sensation.
First album, First Lesson 《第一课》, debuted on 19th Nov 2010.

The first time I saw Neely sing on One Million Stars, I was telling myself how this ang moh will definitely make it even if he sang the most distasteful songs in the music scene, because his selling point is not his vocals, but his looks. One smile is all that it takes to kill. His ability is sing is just an added bonus to that gorgeous face. Call me superficial, well, I am (in this case).
Okay, before judging Neely as a himbo here, I will justify and credit him for this album, unbiased.
Contributing lyrics to two tracks and co-composing melody for one in his first album shows that Neely is not just a sugar-coated candy, but someone with the substance and the ability.
In a terribly KPOP saturated environment we are in now, we really something fresh and different, and Neely fills in nicely.
Being a power-packed newbie in this music scene, Anthony Neely is here to leave an indelible ink, a lasting impact.

The Great Escape and Splash water Kingdom, Queensbury, NY.

Suddenly, I miss this place a lot :(
A place of fun, laughter and joy. A place where my heart misses till it aches.
It was so real, it was so awesome, it was really A GREAT ESCAPE.
Now everything seems so surreal, now everything seems so dead, I wonder what's left there.
Winter is here to visit, people are loving it. Who would remember the happiness that Summer brought?
I will, of course. Because of this, I've learnt that life is more than what it is; there are opportunities out there.
There's still love, fun, happiness and joy out there, anywhere, everywhere.
It's good to have learnt. It's good to remember. It's good that I've been where I've been and done what I've done :)

Dinner with Agnes :)

Went out for dinner with Agnes last Wednesday at Parkway and we went to Awfully Chocolate for deserts. This is what best friends do when we meet up for dinner, put chocolate all over our teeth and take unglam and fugly pictures of ourselves. HAHAHA.

Gender of Numbers and Alphabets?

I was watching videos on youtube about Synesthesia, a condition where someone's senses are mixed up. Like, when they hear things, they tend to 'see' the sounds in terms of colours. I'm explaining this in really simple terms, before I start to confuse. Anyway, the idea of this condition is that people with Synethesia have special abilities such as seeing music in colour, taste music, see colours in numbers and alphabets, etc. Sounds confusing? Yes, totally. The senses have basically crossed-paths with one another. Read up more about on Wikipedia: Synethesia if you want, cos' that's not really the point I'm focusing about. HAHA.

Anyway, as I was watching the videos, I noticed how the people with Synethesia would associate specific colours to numbers and alphabets, such as Yellow to '1' and Green to 'S', and so on. Then I remembered how I used to see numbers and alphabets as little creatures that have specific genders to them. Get me?
Let me explain. To me, the number 1 is a male. 2 is a female, 3 is a male, 4 is a female, 5 is a male, 6 and 7 are females, 8 is a male, while 9 and 0 are females. 10 would then be a male(1) standing next to a female(0) and so on and so forth.

And, for alphabets:
A-Female
B-Male
C-Male
D-Male
E-Female
F-Female
G-Female
H- Male
I-Male
J-Male
K-Male
L-Male
M-Male
N-Male
O-Male
P-Male
Q-Female
R-Male
S-Male
T-Male
U-Female

Yea, no kidding, I REALLY do see my numbers and alphabets in the own specific genders. And, they will always be in THAT specific gender they are in no matter when and in what context.

I have no idea why I have such associations of genders to my numbers and alphabets, I always thought it was just me being overly bored and having nothing better to do. But having watched videos of people who have the Synethesia condition, I can't help but wonder if my weird habit of giving a gender to numbers and alphabets have got anything to do with it, or maybe some other weirdo psychotic or cognitive condition.

Printer FAIL.

Tricia and I went to buy those DIY printer ink and wanted to fix them at home ourselves. I thought I was smart enough to assemble those ink myself. (Key word here: THOUGHT).

Apparently, my printer is smarter than me. Or, probably, the whole world is smarter than me.
Tricia told me her's came out good. I thought mine would be the same. (Key word here: THOUGHT).

I was really engrossed in injecting the ink into my ink cartridge, doing it slowly, trying not to make a mess out of anything. And I did. I even ignored mum's callings for me to go have dinner.

In the end, this is what I got:

No idea what went wrong, but all my printer could print was RED and BLACK.

Lizzie and I went to 刘力扬's autograph session at Bukit Panjang Plaza yesterday. That part of the island is really not very convenient, and what's worse is that the trains had to be disrupted today. HOOOOO.

Anyway, it was an awesome experience being able to see her so CLOSE and UPFRONT.

This is how lazy I am.
Neglecting my blog after simple joys like breathing the humid air and eating McSpicy fulfill me.
I love it how Singapore is so very small and brainlessly accessible.
Feel like I've pound up even more weight since I came back from the States.
FATTEST ME EVER.
Hmm, school's been a joke so far. Travelling up and down this little island for some hours of lessons that never did leave any imprints on my brain. Maybe I've left my thinking hats in the Big Apple. Maybe I never had any.
Ha, so be it, life is more that.
Oh Weekends, how I love you. Even more time to laze around, and simply feel good in doing so.

It was my last day of work at The Great Escape yesterday, and everything seemed so surreal.
Time never could have past faster, ten working weeks have past just like that.
I was just getting the hang of work, and time's up for me here.
Wonderful people I've met, wonderful times I've had, all will be etched deeply in my memory.
Thank you all who has made my days here at The Great Escape a fun and superbly awesome one!

Today marks the first day of summer here and the weather was already mad hot since yesterday. The park had close to ten thousand visitors yesterday, mostly families who came in to celebrate Father's Day.
Happy Belated Father's Day to papa! Although I've sms-ed him to wish him already, heehee.
Another 2 more months and I'll be back in the comfort of my own home. Although I don't feel as home sick as what I feel staying in hall, I do miss food back in Singapore a lot. Food in America is basically CRAP and too unhealthy to be consumed. I weighed myself two days ago and found out that I've gained 3kgs! Kanasai.
Even bugs and insects here are fatter than usual. Mosquitoes here are mega huge and fat, and their bites are the nastiest things ever! There are like so many of them, and they're forever hungry, sucking mercilessly on us and leaving us with ugly itchy bites.
Argh, stupis bugs!

Sunny Lake George

I've been enjoying myself so far in USA. This fun will come to a temporary halt soon as the park will be opened everyday starting next week. Yep, Summer break is starting and kids will be having their holidays real soon.

The weather here is pretty screwed, just when you thought that it's all-ready to wear your shorts to hit the streets, the rain comes and brings the winter back.

It has been mad cold here for the last few days, and I hate to wake up early in the morning and walking to work in the cold. That indescribable feeling simply sucks.

I am here for a month already, time flew in a flash. I'm afraid that this will end all too quickly, and before I realise, I must go back to school. Too fast, all is happening too fast.

I want what's that left to be enjoyable and memorable, and I believe it will be.

Im too tired to blog, too tired.
So let's have a quick update on my all too fantastic life now (hehheh).

Besides being a cashier at Yummy Yummy Cafe in The Great Escape, I'm also doing Landscaping stuff in the park to earn more $$. It's no easy job watering plants too, the hose is so heavy and you'l get all dirty and messy from the soil and dirt. But it's a good experience, money is not easy to be earned leh!

I'm really tired now, my eyelids are falling down. Byebye.

What are some people thinking of?

I had one customer who came up to me and ask 'You charge 4 freaking dollars for one regular soda?'
What am I supposed to say? Yes Madam, we charge 4 freaking dollars for a regular soda.

Then, when I suggested to her to get the value cup which has free-refills the entire day, she exclaimed 'I'm not gonna pay $12.99 for a plastic cup.'

Then when she finally decided to get a regular soda, she complained why didn't the cup have a lid. My supervisor nicely explained that we go lid-less due to green awareness, she exclaimed again, 'I CAN'T BELIEVE THIS!'

I should be the one who can't believe it. Some people just love to complain.

Another customer requested for a refund for the chicken strips he ordered just because the strips were in dinosaur shaped instead of regular chicken strips.
Hello? Aren't they all just chicken? You mean chicken in shapes of dinosaurs taste like dinosaurs instead of chicken?

Some people are more than unreasonable.

Terrible.

This is dumb.
I finally have time to update my blog, and the reason to why I have time is because I left my key in the room before I left for work and am now locked outside my own room.
Thankfully there's a kitchen that is always open and there's wifi around, or else I'll really go bonkers waiting for my roommates to come back in this mad hot temperature.
Well let's talk about today at work. It's my first cashiering day and it's really not so good. I did tell them that I'm not good at counting but they still put me at the counter anyway. I had a hard time familiarising myself to the cash register and had an equally hard time counting those pennies, nickel and dimes. Whoo, thankfully the supervisor is really nice and helped me out whenever I needed help (which was almost the whole time!). Then, halfway through my shift, they said they needed people to clean up the looney tunes cafe, so they sent me and this cook named Colin down. We were practically cleaning through inches thick dust and dirt! How gross! though it was really tiring and messy, it was fun and really interesting and I did really enjoy myself today.
The only thing that I'm hoping for now is that my roommates to return fast and open the door for me, or else I'll have to sit in the kitchen and be an extra while people are busy cooking their dinner!

Have been busy these days meeting up with friends, preparing for my trip and eating (I know I'm a glutton, but I don't care).

Met up with Berlyn and Nanxin yesterday, ate dinner at a Thai restaurant near Bedok interchange. It's called Nakhon Kitchen, and serves authentic Thai food. Even the drinks they have are from Thailand, the glass Coke bottles and Thai Soya Milk from Thailand. Shiok shiok.

Then today, I met up with Wei Lin and Cheryl after making a pact to eat French cuisine after the exams.

We ate at Canelé at Paragon.

They gave me a belated birthday present too!!!

It's a musical jewellery box with a spinning ballerina.

Although it's not a very ME thing, I still like it a lot. It's pretty :) Hopefully I'll make full use of this jewellery box and keep my jewelleries neatly organised. Hehheh.

Watched Ip Man 2 on Saturday night, and I can proudly say out, "Donnie Yen is my IDOL!"

Although most of us agree that the sequel is not as fantastic as the first one, but still, it's amazing.

Sometimes I really wonder if Wing Chun (永春）is as formidable as it seems.

It's portrayed to the the best in the movie and everyone is awed by it.

Yet, the guy that practices this form of martial arts is this calm and gentle-looking man.

Like what is mentioned in the movie, it's not the fighting that matters, but the mutual respect for each other.

NICE.

My brother is going to watch this movie for the second time, see how good it is?

《绝代双骄》, I like~

Ever since holidays have started, my eyes have been glued onto the TV screen like never before. I don't think I've ever been so hooked onto any serial drama like this before.

I dug out the whole set of 《绝代双骄》 recently, and was mad excited on watching it.

This drama dates back to 1999, and I vaguely remember watching it with my grandmother long ago when it was aired on TV.

See how handsome Jimmy Lin and Alec Su were (still are)!

This show is about a pair of twins who got separated shortly after birth and raised up by enemies, and told to kill each other when they grow up.

HANDSOME!

Check this out, the guy on the left is Hong Kong actor, Kevin Cheng 郑嘉颖!!!

So many handsome guys in this show, hehheh!

I'm still in the midst of watching this, and guess what, I'm into episode 28 of the show, and yet both 小鱼儿 and 花无缺 still have not found out that they are twins yet!

I've finished the entire show already, it's a 40-episode marathon in 3 days, 90 minutes per episode. Am I super or what! haha. Oh, they only found out they are twins in the last episode, OH~MY~GOD la.

Call me crazy, but I feel like watching the whole set again. HEEHEE.

For the eighth thousand times, 张敬轩 is a guy, not a girl. His name sounds like a girl's name, I know. Even Felicia Chin has a same-sounding Chinese name too.

But, having a girlish-sounding name doesn't mean that he can't sing, eh.

This is his eleventh album, my forth of his to my collection.

This album is not too bad, with a strong distinctive 'Hins' style in it.

These are obviously cover tracks of Madonna's hits, a tribute to the megastar for granting Glee rights to her entire catalogue of music.

What an awesome way of PUBLICITY.

If you are a huge fan of Glee, you'll probably wanna buy this seven-tracked album and then sing and dance along da music.

Glee is addictive. Look at my sister, her eyeballs scream GLEE every time I look into her eyes. She eats sleeps talks Glee every minute now. tsk tsk tsk.

SCV's new numbering system

News came out a few weeks ago that Starhub is changing their channels numbering system from 30th April, and that's bad news for me.

I've memorised all their channels numbering by heart, and I can press the buttons on the remote control without looking at it. That's how pro I am when it comes to the television.

Now that they've come up with a new numbering system, it means that it's time for me to erase the stored data in my brain and install new ones in.

Let's take a look at the new numbering system:

Well, as we can all see, the free local channels, a.k.a Mediacorp channels, will be '100+whatever-they-used-to-be'. For instance, Channel NewsAsia will be changed from '006' to '106'; and kiddy's favourite OKTO from '008' to '108'. In them will include other foreign channels such as French TV5 which Starhub conveniently named 'International/Ethnic'.
From then onwards, the numberings are simply screwed up.
Sports channels will be next in line, starting with the 200s.
Kiddies choices in the 300s. Well, in my memory, kids' channels are always have something to do with '3'... Anyone remember that Disney channel used to be on ch.13 for English and 23 for Mandarin? HA! And why are kid's shows after the sports?
Education is in the 400s. Why the hell is sports in front of education?!?
Entertainment is in the 500s range. Can someone explain why is 'FOXCRIME' in Entertainment? Morbid people! And again, how the hell does Sports come way before Entertainment?
Movies will be in the 600s, so far away that I don't even think I'll press it to watch it.
700s are for the news channels, which is so wrong. Imagine wanting to watch some breaking news, and then you'll have to press the bloody number '7' which is located at the bottom of the remote control button panel. Then your finger, or thumb, will have to stretch itself to the higher buttons like 1, 2 and 3 before you can swtich the channel to a news channel to catch that breaking news. By the time your fingers, or that one sad thumb, manages to press those numbers which are so far away from each other, that breaking news would have become outdated.
800s are for Chinese channels. What's this? An outcast is it?!? The last of everything has the be the Chinese channels, and the last time I've checked, JET TV is Japanese, not Chinese. What's more unbelievable is that Sports is actually before Chinese! What's this?!

WHY THE HELL ARE SPORTS CHANNELS IN FRONT?
I know that I have the choice of not needing to press those 2++ channels, but it's simply an eyesore that is comes before Educations, News, Entertainment and Chinese! It should seriously be at the end of the line, considering that no one really gives a damn about sports unless it's the World Cup/ NBA/ Olympics/ YOG/ Sportmen Engaging in Scandals season.
No doubt I know that sports channels are what that's giving them most $$$ (as Sports channels are the only channels subscribed by coffee stalls and even in NTU hostels), but that's not the way to show your gratitude to the consumers right? tsk tsk tsk.

Yes, in a flash, another semester is ending.
I just came back from a tutorial, not realising that it's the last tutorial of the semester. Well, I'm always not realising things until the last minute anyway.
What's scary is that I don't think I've really learnt anything this semester.
The only things I remember about this semester is the late nights I spent in vain trying to finish those mountains of readings, then stoning in class the next day because I'm so bloody tired.
And this sad life continued for three whole months.
Endless complaints and endless rants; all will soon end with the closure of this dreadful sem.

There's another project on hand, and I have French oral tomorrow. Seems that there's really no time to study for upcoming exams.

Packed those notes which were scattered all over my table. And I got this ~~neat~~ thick pile of PAPERS. Oh man, how many trees have I killed?

Even the hole puncher broke when I tried to punch holes.

Tricia dismantled the whole thing.

And I fixed it back! I think I found a new job perspective, a MECHANIC! haha.

Haiz, and I have to start packing all my things and get ready to move out of hall soon.

Finally caught Alice In Wonderland with Ken and Liz during the weekends. Well, I wounldn't say that it's the best movie this season, but it's sure worth a watch. Hello? It's Johnny Depp, yeah? He NEVER fails to make his characters come to life. Mat Hatter is one cool character which is just right MAD. Probably watching it in 3D would have been a better experience, but the timing for the 3D screening was simply too out of the way. Digital effects are appropriate in this out-of-reality movie, but it made some characters look robot-like. I believe cinema goers would have expected more, but as all should know, raising the bar too high is almost self sabotaging. HA!

Made a mad purchase of six CDs within two days not too long ago. Call me insane!

Okay, I didn't exactly pay for them all myself, most are shared with my sissy. She's becoming like me, tsk tsk tsk.

Jacky Cheung's 'Private Corner'. Bought it for mummy as her birthday present. It's almost entirely Jazz, easy to the ears and very very 'upper-class' sounding. No more cheesy Cantopop for the God of Songs! Yeah! Haha. A little disappointment that there are no self-penned songs in this album, but who cares! At least he opened his mouth to sing once again and insert vibe in (once again shall I mention) the dying music scene of Hong Kong.

Recommended tracks: ALL, but I do have a personal favourite, [不只有缘].

Glee! Hello all kids out there! Missing those days where you'd sing and dance along to High School Musical on Disney Channel? Well, don't be sad that HSM has gone into the Museum of Past Tense, because there's the even more awesome ‘GLEE’ now! For those who don't know what Glee is, please give yourself a slap. GLEE has been showing/ is still showing/ will be showing on Star World (ch. 18 on SCV) for quite some time. It’s a TV series targeted to young people, so please go watch it and save your old souls. Songs done in the show are cover versions of hits such as ‘Take a bow’- Rihanna, ‘No Air’-Jordin Sparks and ‘Keep Holding On’- Avril Lavigne, just to name a few. Everything’s quite nicely done, although vocals sound amateurish. But, I won’t complain. Sincere and cheap entertainment for the win! Two volumes for double joy!

Recommended tracks: ‘Don’t Stop Believing’ – It isn’t the theme song for no reason.

Nick Jonas & The Administration's Who I Am. Lizzie wanted it, not me. Alright, I admit that the album’s cover did make me want to buy it and devour it whole. Nick Jonas simply looks a lot cooler and more professional without his brothers next to him. Bringing with him a band called The Administration, Nick Jonas is out to blast out the ears and hearts of young girls. Music composed does have some standards or two, lyrics are poetic too, what’s probably letting down is the undeniable weak vocals of Jonas. There are some point into the songs where he seems almost to the point of breaking a note. Liz will probably chop my head off when she reads this, but seriously, no criticism means no improvements, yeah?

Recommended tracks: ‘Who I Am’ (The mv for this song is nicely done, go watch it), ‘State of Emergency’, ‘Vesper’s Goodbye’

Leona Lewis’s Echo! I finally bought it after pondering for a million years. Powerful vocals bring you on a musical journey through several octaves that sound awfully easy to Lewis. Songs are quite distinguishably different and are all above the standards of what that makes a ‘hit’. That’ll probably mean that Leona’s music is here to stay for quite a while! Not forgetting to mention, there’s a hidden track in this album, Stone Hearts and Hand Grenades. Nice surprise!

Recommended tracks: Again, I’ll probably start naming all. But currently, I’m hooked onto ‘Lost Then Found’ –With OneRepublic.

OneRepublic’s Waking Up. Another gem which I bought only after the entire world got sick and tired of it. Actually, I’ve been very addicted to ‘All The Right Moves’ for a long long time, but nothing made me think that I should buy this album. It was only when I heard ‘All This Time’ then did I finally make the decision to buy this album. Well, no regrets! I may be slow, but at least I realised. Imagine how tragic it would be if I were to waste life away in this sad university without the comfort of good music, life would definitely be a mistake.

I am probably the most depressed person on earth now. So much so that I don't even want to think about anything anymore.

Today's quiz was BAD. If it was MCQ style I could still guess and probably get some marks here and there, but it was short answers style. The first question was along the lines of 'Use the theta-grid to analyse the word assault'. Erm, haha, but what's theta-grid?

Okay, I know that I should have studied harder, but seriously, with a mountain of readings to read, and another mountain of assignments to do, there's just not enough time to study for a quiz.

I practically spent my entire weekend at home buried in my notes and readings. It’s just not worthwhile spending the precious weekends of mine in the heaps of work I have when the effort I put in obviously does not show in the outcome.

Oh, research proposal. I thought it would be okay, but NO! Tutor says it’s out of point, it’s incoherent, it’s impractical, and it’s a flawed study, blah blah blah. HELLO?! Who was the one who said it was okay in the first place? Your accomplice! Then what? You want another piece of work on Wednesday? The last time I checked, I’m not a superhuman. I don’t know how we can squeeze out something of standard for you with such little time.

I’m trying hard to stay optimistic for tomorrow’s sunlight, but I fear that tomorrow will be worse than today.

What I like about Singapore is that once in a while you'll have dumb and crazy news that will hog the headlines for a couple of days (or even weeks), and then soon after, nobody remembers a shit about it.

Recently, there are cases of Short, Old and Rounded MEN toying with young girls. Although these are really awesome topics to discuss about over dinner, it's so really disgusting to even talk about. Hello?!? Why do the young girls wanna hang out and have more-than-supposed relationships with old and oily men more than twice their age? RETARDED. Love yourself more, ladies! Go to the old folks home and accompany those elders if you really have so much love you need to show.

Well, these terrible and bleachingly disgusting affairs/ relationships/ love stories really reflects how pathetic this society is. Old preys on young for bodily needs, and young shamelessly snuggles up to old for fame. Haha! I bet you that girl wants to be famous and hence snuggled up to the 'most aspiring and successful Director in Singapore'. Come on la, want to find a stepping board also find a better one right? My 4 AUs cores are going to be changed to 3 AUs! That also means that I'll only have 18 AUs this semester when I am in fact overloaded with crap of school work. HELLO?!?! The modules we LMS students are taking can anytime weight more than 5 AUs each! The workload is mad heavy and we have assignments after assignments to churn up. What do you think we are? Machines? Our sad little brain is packed with shits from you! Recess week wasn't at all recess. It was ALL WORK AND NO PLAY. You've indeed made us all become Jack, the dull boy; and your damned Jackass which you have no sympathy for! You believe the modules are only worth 3 AUs as we only have 3 hours of contact time per week, but have you any idea how much time we are spending on our readings and work of these modules outside of class?!? ALL OF IT! I don't even have time to have a nice chat with my parents or visit my grandparents! The life I'm leading is no longer mine, it belongs to school and it's mad pile of work. 3 AUs? Today was another FML day. GG!

I slipped down a flight of stairs today, injured my FINGER.

My US Visa had an error, so I have to go down to the embassy another day to collect it again. That means that I'll have to do the whole queue-and-wait-forever routine all over again.

Then I was almost late for my French test. All thanks to the Visa problem.

Then I became totally broke. All thanks to the Visa problem which too so long and I had to cab back down to NTU in time for my test.

BUT, nothing's that bad when you get a to eat a nice dinner after a terrible day.

I am so tired; I can sit in front of the com and fall right into sleep now.
This morning, at an unearthly timing of 2.30am, I found myself at HSS building doing night watch duty.
My duty: Sit around and look after the tables and chairs. WTH?!
Any person with at least a single working brain cell can think of better and more efficient way than to plant people around an empty square to look after foldable tables and plastic chairs. Heard of a storeroom, anyone? They’ve effectively wasted precious (sleeping) time of many students. I can only shake my head in disbelief when I heard that I have to go for night watch duty from 230 to 530 am to look after the ‘booths’.
But I left duty earlier at 5am, because I have a VISA interview at 7am. Tricia and I rushed and waited for the first bus to get ourselves out of this secluded area called NTU. But the bus came only at 6.25am. We boarded the train and reached Clementi at 6.55am. How can we get to Novena by 7.15am? We took a cab. A total waste of money. Interview at the US embassy was quite fast. The guy just asked me a few questions and it was approved. Yay! USA, I’m coming in May!

Then, Tricia and I met Dewi and we went to watch 14 Blades. I fell asleep the very moment I sat down in the cinema. I think I missed out quite a bit of the movie and Tricia kept nudging me in attempt to wake me. I can’t even keep my eyelids open; it was seriously involuntary closure of the lids. Then, she nudged me again real hard, and I popped open my eyes in shock and saw this handsome figure on the movie screen. WU CHUN! Goodness! He looks so dashing and charismatic. His character looks a bit like Captain Jack Sparrow of the Pirates of the Carribbean, super cool and hawt. HAHA! Donnie Yen is quite cool too. Qi Yu Wu’s character is okay la. Vicki Zhao looks really old. Kate Tsui’s character just makes me hate her even more than before. Overall, I think Wu Chun’s character left the most impression on me. Partly because he is extremely handsome and drop-dead gorgeous, another is because he plays a bandit who has a righteous heart, the kind of characters which everyone likes. Too bad his character died, all thanks to Kate Tsui’s character. BLEH.
This movie is of okay standards, not a blockbuster and not anything near Donnie Yen's awesome portrayal of Ip Man. The movie movie hovers round a few characters only, and the storyline lacks. One may leave the cinema not understanding the gist of the show. But all is compensated with Wu Chun! Haha.

My HOLGA's pictures are out. And, like always, my pictures aren't very fantastic. They basically scream 'NOOB' when you see them. HAHA. But I like them many many:)

I am quite amazed with the darkened corners result on the photographs. I read multiple reviews of the Holga 135BC that the 'BC-Black corner' results are faint, and often lacking in the pictures. Mine turned out fine and the pictures have a slight vignette touch to them. Wahaha. I love my camera:)

Remember how restricted conventional cameras were? You'll always lose a few photos in the beginning of a new roll of film, and always have to take pictures wisely because films are expensive.

Blurry pictures, dark pictures, unwanted expressions and unprepared faces are some things you'll not want to see in your newly-developed photos. You’ll curse and swear for having destroyed those photos and needing to pay to get them developed.
Now, with the digital camera, ugly photos are just a delete button away and will never be seen ever again (unless you are a tech junkie and can retrieve deleted files as seen in some scandals). You start having random shots of random things, like the passing clouds and that ugly insect on the floor in your camera, because your memory card has lots of space and you can just delete them as and when you want. You also start having people who cam-whore non-stop and have a thousand photos of themselves in the same particular angle because they insist that their right face looks nicer than their left face (when in reality nobody even realise you have an asymmetrical face, and neither do you go round talking to people with your head turned aside and looking at them with slanted eyes like how you do while cam-whoring).
Last time, it was more of ‘pose and shoot’. Now, it’s ‘anyhow shoot’.
Well, we had daddys and uncles then that double up as discerning photographers capturing those priceless expressions and scenarios. Pictures indeed spoke a thousand words when they were restrained to 36 exposures per film roll. People made full use of them, pressing down the shutter like a button to lock up memories.

I spent an entire night flipping through some old photo albums, smiling unknowingly and occasionally laughing to myself. Yellow, most pictures have turned, but those smiles remain.
Oh, how I love the time when photos HAD to be developed.

Go, take out those old forgotten photo albums in the cupboard and take a good look at them. You will enjoy it, I confirm guarantee chop.

Yay yay yay.
I'm rejoicing~ (It's rare, cos' there's really nothing much to rejoice about now that you are stuck in your late teens, entering the BIG 2, and still have nothing accomplished.)
I'm rejoicing because the most boomz festival of the year is coming again! Yes, it's my grandpa's birthday!
Haha. Okay, I'm refering to Chinese New Year, but seriously, my grandpa's birthday falls on Lunar New Year. So every year, besides saying [恭喜发财、红包拿来], we also say [Happy Birthday, let's eat the cake]. Of course, my grandpa will be the happiest kid around, with so MANY people celebrating his birthday with him. And of course, most of them there coincidentally due to CNY. Hehheh.
Well, the real reason I'm rejoicing is because I am finally going to have a break from school! WOOHOO! Although it's just a bloody short break of 4 days, I am more grateful than ever. Of course, I will be even more grateful if NTU can *poof* and vanish into thin air now, but that's just impossible because the YOG committee will ensure that nothing goes wrong with even a single blade of grass until YOG is over.
Haiz.
Should I attend lecture tomorrow? My conscience tells me to go, but my everything else is telling me not to.
I will toss a coin. Heads- I will go, Tails- I will not go. Okay, let me first find a double-tailed coin. Bye.

Yay! I can finally strike off something in my wishlist! The 135BC Holga~

Agnes and I each bought one of this awesome toy from this blog. I've been wanting to own a Holga since damn long ago, but have been contemplating here there everywhere due to financial constrictions. Then, I finally decided to buy it after aggy told me she wanna buy one too! It's so cool! This means that aggy and i finally have a common interest! HAHAHA.

I tell you, no one will believe that Tricia and I were dead-sick on Friday if you see the following photos.

We went down to IMM for Yoga's autograph session after our lessons. French ended at 6pm and the autograph session supposedly is starting at 7pm, so Tricia and I had a mad rush down to IMM.

BUT, like always, the event started late. Way later than 7pm, say something like 8pm? Gosh.

Dumbo me thought that I didn't bring my camera along, hence, I didn't take any pictures during the autograph session. Then, after the thingy ended, I found my camera in my bag! How smart!

Yeah, thankfully, the queue moved fast, although he signed every single album really s~l~o~w~l~y. He penned his 'Y' for something that felt like 2 whole seconds, then proceeded with a very slow and precise 'o' then a artsy-looking ‘g’ and then lastly a cherry-like ‘a’ to complete that drawing of a signature. I could even turn and give Tricia a stare while he was signing my album. I was thinking that he can never get to finish signing for everyone if he were to do it with such precision. His handshake was firm, and he seemed real stoned, guess he's tired.

Then after that, Tricia and I went to have dinner at Crystal Jade, woa, rich kids, eh? Totally. Broke. She had fried rice while I took some vermicelli thing. The portion is so huge! Mega full.

WAIT! First, let me explain the lack of updates. I HAVE NO BLOODY TIME! Yes, as sad as it sounds, my life is no longer my life. I have lost it entirely to the gargantuan load of readings I have to read. It's either that, or I've simply lost the interest in typing out the sorrows of my life onto my blog when I can spend the time doing something more meaningful, like catching more sleep. Well, that's just the sucky part of life. BUT, I'm no dumbass sitting around giving in to the down-side of life! I need a break, and ta-da, here's how to spend some time out of school.

YEA~!
Just came back from Yoga Lin's mini concert at St. James Dragonfly, I'm still high on adrenaline. Haha.

Okay, Tricia and I went to Vivo-city for dinner. And, despite both our throats being bad, we went ahead to see Yoga! And then we met her two other friends, Hui Min and Vivian, and the four of us ‘strutted’ down to St. James Dragonfly. The queue was rather long (but no queue can beat Fahrenheit’s queue) but we managed to 'cut queue' and enter earlier. All thanks to Vivian’s Dad who works at Dragonfly. Heehee, priority!

Yoga was mad high. I think he always is. I like it how he treats every single LIVE performance a new and different one, singing to tunes in different variations and adding his own spice into songs, turning them into a gem of its own.

I didn’t really take many pictures this time round, because I really want to focus and pay attention to his singing. BUT, there are so many people with their hands held high, holding onto cameras snapping and videoing Yoga every single second. HELLO? Your hands not tired ah? I see your hands I feel very sian lor. Even Yoga himself said that those who wanna hold cameras should stand at the back, cos’ he sees only blank faces staring into camera screens when he is on stage singing. Even I feel guilty. So, minimise on the cameras, yea? It’s more considerate too cos’ you won’t be blocking others behind you.

I'm a sinner. I do bad things. I do terrible, terrible things.
I do things so bad that the leaders of this earth will want to hunt me down and kill me before my acts of sins do anymore damage.

YES, I KILL TREES.

My new rim of papers just depleted by half, all from printing out the readings I have to read for my modules. I hate to have to print readings; it's somewhat around hundreds of pieces of papers we're dealing with weekly.
That's some massive amounts of forests!

I used to read the readings off my computer screen previously, but it's doing too much harm to my eyeballs. My eyes become Sahara-dry after being fixed onto the screen or too long.

So, I had to make that cruel decision between health and environment. And of course, being an environmentalist, I opted to save my own eyes.

Sorry, but selfish as it sounds, I had no choice. I have to save my pair of eyes from pre-mature destruction so as to accomplish more in the future, such as planting a tree. Planting trees may seem like little efforts to save this huge dying earth, but it helps, because I’m not only cleaning up the air with the trees through photosynthesis, I’m also repaying my debts to the environment for killing their trees in the first place.
Imagine if I hadn’t opted to save my eyes, I would have to study using Braille! And to complete a normal reading might take me days instead of hours! Not to mention that my fingers may get blisters or even blunt out from sliding on the Braille dots. That’s really one health hazard after another!

Things never get to work out in a win-win situation. Here, it will only be lose-lose.
Because of my decision to sacrifice trees or my eyeballs, I’m also risking the idea of graduating penniless.
Printer ink is so expensive that it should really be found in pawnshops instead.
My wallet is thinning (like the ozone layer) and the hole in my pocket is expanding (like the ozone hole) too. Printing of notes and readings is just a vicious cycle that continues till the day education is deemed unnecessary.

In between now till then, I shall scrimp and save, and pray that my evil acts of ecological destruction will go unnoticed.

I've been rather down these few days, too much in my mind.
The first week of school hasn't been very exciting nor fun, rather, it's more like a continuation of 2009, sucky.
Modules I'm taking this semester are all heavy-loads; I'm not even sure if I'm strong enough to lug them till May where holidays come again.
But one thing is for sure, I will work hard this semester (pray that I stick to my words). Why? Because I want to pull up that yucky GPA of mine.
I went to the INSTEP talk a few days ago, and I think that being able to go on an exchange programme would be so awfully cool! But to qualify, students must get GPA of >3.6.
As sad as it sounds, the course I'm taking has no internships or attachments, so in order to escape from this hell-ish environment called 'school', I want to go for an exchange programme.
Sounds feasible? Totally. Chances of it coming true? Slim. Chances of it coming true if Edelyn starts to work hard? A bit higher. Chances of it coming true if Edelyn continues to waste time checking out the world on her itouch? Zero.
So yeah, I shall heed my own advice and turn in to bed. Goodnight.
